Day 6: Hike

Today we headed out to the state park for a little fresh air! "Hiking" on the trails is one of our favorite things to do.

Our hike always starts on the troll bridge!

The boys found a chipmunk house.  There was a small fight over who got to be Theodore but they got over it quickly and thought they were pretty cool for hanging out in here.

Can't forget that it was a game day.  Everyone put their Seahawks jersey on to cheer on the hawks and practice pig-piling!

Day 5: Library

Who takes 3 kids with no inside voices to a library? We do!

There is a tiny library branch on Camano Island that is a perfect little outing for us. The boys love having their library books at home but strangely put little effort into selecting their books. It is always interesting to see what we end up with once we get home. The last 2 trips have brought us books having to do with adoption. I like to tell Casey that it is the boys' way of telling us they want a little sister.
 He's not buying it.

In any case, the boys always enjoy our trips to the library!

We always talk about the rules before we can go in.

Here is Drew checking out his own book.  All of the boys have their own library card and check out all of their own books.

Isaac was done first so he just walked around being silly.

We love the library!

Day 4: Doctors Office

Nothing slows these boys down.  Nothing.  Not even a stomach bug that has them running to the bathroom several times a day and even in the middle of the night.

Around 1:30am I heard poor Drew crying in the bathroom and I rushed in to find that he had an accident all over the floor and had tried to clean it all up.  I'll spare the gory details of the clean up but it was eventually done and as I snuggled with Drew to help him fall back to sleep he raised his one little finger from under the sheets and while waving it said, "Mommy, little boys don't ride dinosaurs.  Only big boys."  And that is how I knew he would soon be asleep.  And he was.  Not long after I was awoken by Isaac using the bathroom and shouting, "I'm done!".  I helped him out and carried him back to his bed.  As I made it into the boys room, just out of the light from the hallway I stepped in something wet.  I managed a one-footed hop to get Isaac to his bed with dropping him due to my sever case of heebie jeebies knowing full well what it was that I had stepped in.  Once confirming my suspicions and cleaning myself and the floor I was finally back to sleep only for the day to start far too soon!

Following this particularly eventful early morning I decided we'd better check with the doctor.  Appointments for Drew and Isaac and Grandma and Papa's house for Evan.  Needless to say, there were a LOT of tears from the crew headed to the doctor's office and Evan was more than happy to celebrate his "alone" date with Grandma and Papa.

The doctor visit was uneventful and the boys are fine, although this little bug might last another week or two!  Lets hope the late night stuff is done with though!

After the check-up we headed to the grocery store for a few items.  Shopping with just 2 boys is WAY easier than with 3 so it was supposed to be a nice little trip.  Right away they were both eager to help.  Drew especially likes to be my little helper (a sneaky way for my tactile guy to get his hands on everything).  He asked so politely if he could put the laundry detergent in the shopping cart so I agreed.  He gingerly took it from my hands and proceeded to chuck it like a rag doll into the cart. Upon smashing down, the cap cracked and detergent began pouring onto the floor.  I grabbed the bottle to stop the blue puddle we had created only to hear Isaac announce to the entire store, "I HAVE TO POOP".  Ugh!

We eventually made it home.  We ate dinner and played a little and then all snuggled on the couch to settle down and watch a bit of a movie.  Here are the boys in their pajamas so sweet and completely unaware of the horrors and chaos they had caused throughout the day!  As disgusting as it all was I would do it all over again to hear them say that they love me "ten hundred forty forty ten" or some other ridiculous combination of numbers to show how big their love is for me, but somehow is always just one shy of how much I love them!

Day 3: Back To School

Today was our first day back at preschool after winter break.  It sure was nice to get back into our regular routine! Coincidentally, today was Drew's turn to be the "Weather Boy".  He and I ran outside while the class counted down from 10 and then he came back and told them what the weather was like.  Today, he reported that is was "cold and frosty."  Dang he is good!  It was very cold and frosty indeed!
Isaac and Evan are always willing to clean off the slides for their classmates!

Day 2: Outside

The boys have become excellent weathermen (thanks to preschool) and love to let me know when it is sunny so we can go outside.  Today was sunny.  Today was 35 degrees.  Daddy took the boys outside today.

I did manage to snap a picture of Evan working very hard on one of his tractors before I ran back inside to warm up.  I know these don't make the best pictures for friends and family but I just love seeing them crouched over and concentrating so hard.

Casey took the boys on a bike ride around the block which they thought was so cool!  Little did they know that it would totally wipe them out and help them fall right to sleep at bedtime.  Hooray outside!

Day 1: Let's Do This

OK, I have been coerced, shamed, and inspired into doing a 365 project.  After looking at my sad little blog and realizing all of the fun things I could have shared and memories that are already fading, I decided that 2013 is the year!  But....not wanting to set myself up for failure I will be calling this a 180 project in my head or the minute I miss a day.  So here goes nothing....

Day 1

There is nothing I love more than seeing the boys playing quietly, deep in thought with their imaginations running wild.  This is such a nice break from the 100 mph there are typically moving at.  What is funny about this picture is that while Drew is sitting quietly (looking quite angelic), his brothers are throwing paper airplanes down the stairs and making the dog chase them.  This looks much more quiet than it actually is, and still he can tune it all out.

January 2012

In January we got snow.  Lots of snow.
Snowy tree at our house.

Evan and Isaac in the snow at home.

Poor Casey was out of town during our little blizzard so the boys, Brewster and I headed over to Grandma and Papa's house for a few days.  They have gas heat in case the power goes out and let's face it, they have the best comfort food and snacks!

Isaac getting ready to go outside.
Getting the boys dressed to go outside in the snow is torture!  It takes forever and gloves at this age are next to impossible to keep on.  All of that hard work for about a half hour of play time.  Because by then they are cold and wanting hot chocolate.  Then the process of undressing and laying out wet clothes to dry.  Thank goodness it only happens a couple times a year!

Drew

Evan excited to be outside!
Sledding was SO much fun for the boys.  Sledding was SO exhausting for the adults!  So many times up and down the hill, asking to be carried, pushed, and pulled. Tylenol please.

Check out Grandma and Papa blazing a new trail for the boys!  They thought this was pretty funny!

After heading inside to warm up it was nice to play some games on their LeapPads.  Yes, the earth stood still for a moment while my boys played quietly [insert heavenly ray of sunshine]!  It is so cute to watch them encourage one another and try to help them with their games.

Drew cheering on Evan

Remember the comment about good snacks at Grandma and Papa's house.  Those snacks include banana splits!  Anything with whipped cream on it is good - add ice cream and you have 3 happy little boys!
Isaac enjoying his banana split

It is hard to keep 3 little boys entertained and off of the ceiling fan during the winter.  One of their favorite activities is playing board games.  As I mentioned in my last post that there is a special place in heaven for people who like to cook with their kids, there is also a special place for people who like to play board games with kids.  Casey, you have earned your spot many times over.  He is such a champ - playing 3-4 different board games in a row while I make dinner...alone.

And when all else fails we just go outside in the cold!  One of our favorite things to do is hiking at the State Park by our house.  We always park in front of this tree.  I tell the boys to stand on it so I can take their picture. I desperately try to get at least 2 of them looking at me then I fear them falling out of the tree as they start to mess around and wonder why I asked them to climb up there in the first place.  Then I look at the picture later and remember.  Aren't they cute?
